The Good News
There’s Bad News and there’s Good News…
“Whether you have just become a Christian or are renewing your commitment to Christ, let’s review some basic truths about Jesus Christ and the salvation He offers. We can never really know enough about the “Good News” that has freed us from eternal death and given us eternal life!” – Billy Graham
The Bad News
We were created in the image of God, to have an intimate relationship with Him. But something came in between us and ended that relationship. The bible says, “when Adam sinned, sin entered the world…” (Rom.5:12) and other scripture explains that, “everyone who sins is breaking God’s law…” (1 John 3:4) and “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.” (1 John 1:8) “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” (Rom.3:23)
So Sin is the thing that has disconnected us from God. It prevents us from hearing God’s voice, knowing He’s there with us, and seeing His presence in our lives. Not only does Sin bring division, but the Apostle Paul explains that, “Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone…” (Rom.5:12) For “the wages of sin is death…” (Rom. 6:23) Like earning a paycheck from our work, death is what sin produces. And this death applies to our soul, which leads to a forever separation from God in eternity. So if the bible says that we are all detached from God, how does God respond to our sinful state? What does He do about our separation from Him?
The Good News
The bible says, God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Rom.5:8) God responds to our sinfulness, with love. He decided to take our place on the cross, to free us from our Sin. The Apostle John declares, “that Jesus came to take away our sins…” (1 John 3:5) So “if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” (1 John 1:9) God not only desires to save us, but He also wants to have a relationship with us again. Jesus says, “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” (Rev.3:20)
Jesus stands at the door of our heart and knocks. He won’t barge in or force us to believe in Him. But if we ask Him to come into our heart and forgive us for our Sins, He will. The Bible also says, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom.10:9) For “…the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom.6:23)
Jesus came to save us from our life of Sin and offer us new life in Him with purpose. We can be born again into this life by professing our faith in Jesus and asking the Holy Spirit to come into our heart. Then we show an outward commitment to Christ through baptism. “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Cor. 5:17) God now sees us faultless through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son.
